Took a bike ride with my roommate Erik today. We rode around my new neighborhood for the first time. There are some ginormous houses, along with a really cool rec center that is going up.

Went exploring on the mountain with my good friend Corbyn today. Following a day where we almost fell off of a 100 foot cliff, we took precautionary measures to make sure we didn’t kill ourselves. So we found some new trails and explored some new terrain which I was unfamiliar with.

Went backcountry today on the backside of Winter Park off of the Panoramic Express for the first time. We started down a trail that was not well travelled and we soon found out why. We came upon a cliff that ended up being about 100 feet high. Lucklily we were able to ride around it with a minor amount of work on my part. I had to unstrap my board and walk through dense waist deep snow in order to get around it.

After avoiding a dismal fall, we rode down to the highway and hitchhiked our way back to the resort. Looking out off of the cliff made me very uneasy, thinking it was just a few steps away from a fatal fall. While uneasy, these moments help me realize just how lucky we are to be breathing every day and to be doing the things we love.

Made a batch of “Man Dip,” Nathan Hoag’s creation, tonight. This marks the first time that I have ever had Man Dip two nights in a row. Needless to say, my body did not thank me for this novel experience.

Besides watching the Super Bowl, I went snowboarding today (imagine that). My friends Erik, Jordan, Corbyn and I hiked over to Vasquez Cirque. It was the first time I have ever been there in spite of my many years snowboarding at Winter Park. The run was spectacular with a pretty steep pitch at the top of it. Done and done.

This may not count really, but today was really the first time I realized just how complicated postal mail addresses could be. And for the first time in a long time I realized just how out of date they are and just how technological our society has become.

Teaching

As a snowboard teacher I firmly believe what Gandhi stated in the quote below-that practice is worth much more than preaching. I can spit lessons into kids faces all day about how they can improve their riding, but until they actually just start riding, it’s worth nothing. Once they start riding, their snowboarding improves dramatically.

By the same token, we talk a big game in a lot of different areas in our life, but it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t put it to practice. Practice makes perfect, just like our mommas told us!
